a single generation, Cleis
Press has fundamentally changed the way people think
and speak about sex and gender. Founded by Felice Newman and Frédérique
Delacoste in 1980, the press's mission is to explore and
celebrate sex in all its forms. Cleis publishes provocative, intelligent
books in the areas of sexuality, gay and lesbian studies, erotica,
fiction, gender studies, and human rights. Groundbreaking titles
include The Survivor's Guide to Sex, Ultimate Guide
to Sex and Disability, Body Alchemy: Transsexual Portraits, Sex
Work: Writings by Women in the Sex Industry, Public Sex: The Culture
of Radical Sex, and The Whole Lesbian Sex Book.
Beginning in 2006, Newman and Delacoste will edit the Best
Sex Writing series, an annual collection comprising a detailed,
direct survey of the contemporary American sexual landscape, a
landscape Newman and Delacoste helped shape. Read
